About this event
RENEW 2026 is one of Japan's largest open factory events, held every autumn in the Echizen Sabae area of Fukui Prefecture. Workshops and companies across seven craft traditions—lacquerware, Japanese paper (washi), forged cutlery, traditional chests (tansu), pottery, eyewear, and textiles—open their doors to the public. Through workshop tours, hands-on workshops, and guided tours, visitors can experience the genuine atmosphere and background of local craftsmanship firsthand. It is a 3-day event where you can connect directly with artisans and experience their techniques and passion. Aiming to revitalize regional industries and foster sustainable community development, the event attracts many visitors from both Japan and abroad. In 2026, it is scheduled to be held for 3 days from Friday, October 9 to Sunday, October 11. In addition, ahead of the main event in Fukui, "RENEW in TOKYO 2026" will be held in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9, 2026, showcasing the charms of the craft regions and the event.
