About this event
"Wakasa Oi Super Ogase", held every year in Oi Town, Fukui Prefecture, is a summer fire festival inspired by the "Ogase" tradition dating back over 300 years. The spectacular sight of a massive leaf-shaped torch, standing 20 meters high and weighing 1 ton, wildly whirling over the sea is breathtaking and serves as the festival's symbol. The festival's seed flame, the "Everlasting Flame", is carried to the venue by a torch procession; subsequently, a total of 60 young men ignite the giant torch with spirited shouts and powerfully rotate it while being showered in sparks, presenting a magnificent view truly worthy of being called "Art of Fire". Further enlivening the festival is the dynamic "Fire Taiko" performance by the local drumming team "Oi Blaze". In the venue enveloped in darkness after sunset, the performance unfolding on a specially lit stage overwhelms spectators. At the climax of the festival, visitors can enjoy the synchronization of approximately 10,000 fireworks illuminating the night sky of Aoto with the flames reflected on the sea surface. The pageant of fireworks and sound is launched alongside popular songs chosen by junior high school students, creating an emotional finale. During the eve festival, a dance festival where children showcase the results of their daily practice is also held, making it a heat-filled event. Paid reserved seating is available, allowing visitors to enjoy the festival from various seating tiers, such as Torch Procession Seats, Fireworks Seats, Taiko Seats, and Lawn Seats. Temporary parking lots are also provided for visitors arriving by car.
