About this event

This traditional festival with a history of over 1,000 years heralds the arrival of spring in the basin. The festival ceremony begins at 10:00 AM, followed by the dedication of the Daitai Kagura performed in the kagura hall by the Omote Shrine Kagura Preservation Society until around evening. In addition, shortly after 12:00 PM, the Urayasu no Mai dance is dedicated by sixth-grade elementary school girls who are parishioners of Omote Shrine (from the Machiya and Yahagi districts). The Urayasu no Mai consists of two parts, the "Fan Dance" and the "Bell Dance," adding color to the festival alongside the Kagura. Omote Shrine was founded about 2,300 years ago and enshrines the three deities Tensho Kotaijin, Ukatama no Mikoto, and Ninigi no Mikoto, along with Daisho Monju, who is venerated as a deity of learning and wisdom. Daisho Monju is also known as one of Japan's Three Great Monju and is sung about in the Yamanashi folk song "Ichikawa Monju."
