About this event
'Ena no Sato Tsugine Nukihosai' is a festival celebrating the harvest of 'Ena no Tsugine' (rice dedicated to the Imperial Court), planted in spring. It conveys the history and culture of Ena's rice, which is said to have been used in early Daijosai imperial accession rituals 1,342 years ago, through songs and dances. Held as Act 2 of the festival, it shares gratitude for 'the harvest' and joy for 'the yield.' Highlights include young maiden dancers (saotome) dancing to the Tsugine Minori Ondo and men harvesting the bountiful ears of rice. At the end of the festival, mochi rice cakes made from Ena rice equivalent to 100 mortars (usu) are thrown to celebrate abundance. In addition, a photo contest will be held to solicit photos capturing scenes from the event.
