About this event
Held at the Toyota Shirakawa-Go Eco-Institute in Shirakawa Village, Gifu Prefecture, the 'Hime Ookuwagata Research Camp' is a 4-day program for students from 6th grade of elementary school to 3rd grade of junior high school to explore the ecology of the Hime stag beetle (hime ookuwagata). Inhabiting cool beech forests, the Hime stag beetle has acquired a unique ecology to survive, and uncovering its secrets requires survey methods different from those used for ordinary stag beetles. In this camp, participants formulate hypotheses based on clues from stag beetle traces and the surrounding environment, and seek out their own survey methods. Through observation, consideration, and verification, it is a valuable opportunity to experience the fun of natural science and the joy of discovery. Participants also contribute to the creation of the participant survey report that is updated every year, and can experience the sense of accomplishment of creating their own original report. The program aims to deepen understanding of nature and foster scientific curiosity through exploratory activities in primeval beech forests.
