About this event
The exhibition "Edward Gorey: Secret Messages," dedicated to the internationally acclaimed picture book author Edward Gorey (1925-2000), will be held at Shizuoka City Museum of Art. Through approximately 300 works—including original picture book and illustration drawings (some displayed in Japan for the first time), posters, and publications—this exhibition decodes the secret messages hidden within Gorey's mysterious world and intricate linework. As his popularity in Japan expanded around the end of 2025 to mark his centennial birth anniversary, this exhibition offers a valuable opportunity to appreciate Gorey's multifaceted talent. The exhibition runs from Saturday, November 28, 2026, to Monday (national holiday), January 11, 2027, with opening hours from 10:00 to 19:00. Closed on Mondays and during the Year-End/New Year holidays (December 28 to January 1), but open on Monday (national holiday), January 11. Visitors entering after 15:00 on weekdays in December will receive original merchandise gifts, limited to the first 50 people each day.
