2026 Hamamatsu Joint Awa Odori

In autumn 2026, four Awa Odori dance troupes active in Hamamatsu City—Hamamatsu-shi Ren, Nishiiba Ren, Shirasagi Ren, and Tenryu Ren—will gather at the Mall Street shopping district to perform a joint dance. This marks the first time that the four troupes in Hamamatsu City gather in one place for a joint performance, bringing their shared passion together as a new chapter in history begins. Living up to the famous phrase "Dancing fools and watching fools—both are fools, so why not dance?♪", visitors can enjoy powerful performances by each troupe as well as special joint performances unique to this day, such as street processional dancing (nagashi-odori) and all-hands dancing (so-odori). Held as part of "THE FLAG PROJECT" promoted by Hamamatsu Arts & Creation and the Hamamatsu Machinaka Nigiwai Council, the event operates under the concepts of "Making the special part of everyday life" and "Planting a flag in downtown Hamamatsu." It aims to fill the streets with diverse expressions such as music, art, dance, and traditional culture, connecting people and generating new encounters and vibrant energy. This initiative embodies the hope of nurturing this into an event that will be embraced and loved as a new cultural staple of Hamamatsu for years to come. In addition to Awa Odori, various spots across Mall Street will serve as stages, with diverse artists and performers brightening the town through live music, dance, performances, and art exhibitions. The entire Mall Street transforms into a single entertainment space where visitors can encounter and enjoy various expressions while strolling around. The usual Mall Street will transform for just this one day into a grand stage filled with smiles and emotional moments.
