About this event
At the Sagara Oil Field Tourism Chestnut Orchard in Makinohara City, Shizuoka Prefecture, visitors can enjoy chestnut picking from mid-September to mid-October. The orchard features six varieties of chestnut trees that bear abundant fruit in autumn, allowing guests to harvest freshly fallen, ripe chestnuts. In 2025 (Reiwa 7), operations will be limited to shop retail only, selling raw chestnuts, roasted chestnuts, chestnut steamed sticky rice (kuri okowa), Kinzanji miso, and other specialties. The chestnut okowa is especially renowned for its exquisite flavor. When open for picking experiences, admission is 1,200 yen for adults (junior high school students and older), which includes a chestnut souvenir gift, and 300 yen for children (ages 5 through elementary school). Charcoal tongs are available to borrow on-site, but visitors are required to bring their own work gloves.
