The "Dontsuku Festival," a unique traditional event passed down since ancient times in Inatori, Higashiizu Town, Shizuoka Prefecture, to pray for marital harmony, fertility and prosperity of descendants, and sound health, will be held again in 2026. The sight of the portable shrine carrying a large sacred object parading through the hot spring town is truly worthy of being called one of the "world's strangest festivals" and is an impressive spectacle rarely seen in other regions. The festival features food stalls, taiko drum performances, comical hayashi music (baka-bayashi), and concludes with a fireworks display. This festival allows you to experience long-standing local traditions and a distinct atmosphere, making for unforgettable travel memories that can only be found in Inatori Onsen.
