Zero Carbon City Kasugai Uchimizu Grand Campaign

About this event

Kasugai City has declared itself a "Zero Carbon City Kasugai" as a global warming countermeasure, aiming for net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050. This summer, it provides an opportunity for citizens and businesses to reduce air conditioning usage time by practicing uchimizu (water sprinkling) on sunny, hot days, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions and reflecting on global warming. Uchimizu is a traditional Japanese cooling method that lowers ambient temperatures by sprinkling water, and also carries the hospitable meaning of cleansing entryways and streets to welcome guests. In this campaign, as a citywide Uchimizu DAY, collective water sprinkling will take place across households, offices, and shops on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 (Reiwa 8), from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM. In case of rain, it may be postponed at each participant's discretion. The use of rainwater or recycled water (such as leftover bathwater or children's wading pool water) is recommended for uchimizu, which also leads to water conservation. Please carry it out in safe areas without traffic; sprinkling is effective not only on road surfaces but also on rooftops, balconies, walls, and around outdoor AC units. For more effective sprinkling, it is advised to perform it "in the morning and evening hours," "in well-ventilated areas," and "in the shade rather than in direct sunlight." In addition, photos of people doing uchimizu are being collected, and 10 entrants chosen by lottery will win gifts. Photos are accepted until Monday, August 31, 2026 (Reiwa 8). Eligible applicants are individuals or businesses living, working, or studying in the city who have registered their endorsement of "Zero Carbon City Kasugai Uchimizu Grand Campaign 2026."
