About this event
The "Owari Tsushima Autumn Festival", a traditional autumn event with a history spanning approximately 300 years, is held in Tsushima City, Aichi Prefecture. The greatest highlight of the festival is the parade of 16 ornate, magnificent dashi floats carrying karakuri mechanical puppets, dispatched from the four districts of Nanakiri, Mukaijima, Imaichiba, and Kamimori, all recognized as valuable cultural properties over a century old. Beneath the autumn sky, moving to traditional Tsushima Hayashi festival music, the karakuri puppets enchant spectators with versatile performances such as writing calligraphy characters and flying into the air. In addition, the "Kurumagiri" maneuver, in which the front wheels of a float are lifted to spin it powerfully in place, is spectacular. Visitors can also enjoy the "Ishidori Saisha" festival carts parading through town with the lively ringing of gongs and drums, as well as "Kagura" performances featuring drums, sub-drums, and flutes with skilled stick work. When all puppet dedications conclude and night falls, lanterns on the floats are illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere as the floats once again parade through the streets. A live broadcast on YouTube is also planned, allowing audiences everywhere to feel the excitement.
