About this event
A mystical festival where candles inscribed with the names of petitioners are arranged to form the selected kanji character representing the year. As the head priest's chanting resonates, worshippers place their hands together in prayer for family safety, business prosperity, and other blessings before the glowing character emerging in the darkness of the temple grounds. Because the character of the year is announced on the day of the event, visitors can feel a fresh sense of wonder each time they visit. Lighting begins at 19:00 (proceeds in light rain).
