About this event

This is a joint special exhibition organized in collaboration between the Kusatsu-juku Honjin and the Kusatsu-juku Kaido Exchange Museum, held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the public opening of Historic Site Kusatsu-juku Honjin. This special exhibition focuses on the various prominent figures—the "Outstanding People"—who were active in Kusatsu-juku during the Bakumatsu period (late Edo period), introducing their history and achievements. Through the exhibits, the historical background of Kusatsu-juku Honjin, how the honjin was utilized during the late Edo period, and the liveliness of Kusatsu-juku at the time will be revealed. This offers an opportunity to deeply learn about the little-known history of Kusatsu-juku and the people who colored it. Held as part of the 30th Anniversary Festa of the public opening of Kusatsu-juku Honjin, the exhibition is designed to allow visitors to feel closer to the history and culture of Kusatsu-juku.
