A JR Fureai Hiking event visiting national treasure temples and sweets shops will be held in Konan City, Shiga Prefecture, during the beautiful autumn foliage season. On the approximately 11 km course, participants depart from JR Kosei Station, visit Otokaze Marche, an Omi Shimotayaki pottery studio, the National Treasure Choju-ji Temple, have lunch at Juraku no Sato, visit the National Treasure Joraku-ji Temple, stop by sweets shops such as Usami Confectionery, Dengaku Chaya, and Taniguchi Choeido, and finally disperse at JR Ishibe Station. The participation fee is 1,200 yen, which includes admission fees for Joraku-ji and Choju-ji temples. Sweet purchases require separate payment. No reservations are needed, but the event will be canceled if weather warnings are issued for Konan City. It will proceed in light rain. Participants are advised to bring their own lunch box, water bottle, and rain gear, and to join wearing comfortable clothes and walking shoes. It is a hike where you can fully enjoy autumn flavors and history using the JR Kusatsu Line.
