Parent-Child 2-Day 1-Night Trip: Experiencing Nature, Lake Biwa, Water, and Daily Life

About this event

This is a 2-day, 1-night experiential trip held in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture, for parents and children to connect with Lake Biwa's nature and human livelihood. Participants will visit the Omizo Waterside Landscape area, designated as a National Important Cultural Landscape, to learn about industries and lifestyles that make use of abundant water resources. Children can foster independence through experiences like fire-making and cooking their own meals, supported by specialized staff with safety in mind. They can also enjoy observing waterside creatures, swimming in the lake, and watermelon splitting (suikawari). Meanwhile, adults can experience teleworking, interacting with local residents, guided town walks, touring a centuries-old sake brewery, chatting with the 9th-generation owner, and tasting sake. Parents and children can also make summer memories together around a campfire and cooking mess-tin curry. The purpose of this trip is for both parents and children to take home new discoveries and learning in an environment different from everyday life.
