About this event
An autumn illumination event will be held at Hyakusai-ji Temple, known as a famous garden overlooking the realm. Hyakusai-ji, the oldest temple in Omi founded in the 14th year of Empress Suiko (606) by Prince Shotoku for immigrants who came from Baekje, was once a colossal temple where 1,300 people resided across more than 300 sub-temples; however, it suffered Oda Nobunaga's burning attack and its halls were destroyed. The gently sloping stone-stepped approach and the stone walls of monk lodging ruins lining the grounds recall its former glory, while the late autumn atmosphere with the entire mountain dyed in burning red speaks of 1,400 years of history. Hyakusai-ji is also famous as a filming location for TV dramas and movies, recently utilized in the morning TV drama series "Boogie Woogie", the film "Sekigahara", and the live-action "Yu Yu Hakusho". Why not reflect on drama and movie scenes in the illuminated, magical grounds? During the event period, closing times differ between weekdays and weekends/holidays.
