Kyoto Modern Architecture Festival 2026

About this event

The 'Kyoto Modern Architecture Festival 2026,' opening modern architecture extant in Kyoto to the public all at once, will be held from Saturday, October 31 to Sunday, November 8, 2026. This year, approximately 150 buildings are scheduled to participate, with 61 buildings featured as 'Passport Openings' accessible by presenting a passport. On Saturday, October 31, a 5th-anniversary special event 'Tadao Ando Special Talk' by architect Tadao Ando will be held at the Kyoto Art Center. In addition, approximately 120 guided tour courses, 'Collaborative Projects' offering perks such as discounts and novelty gifts, and 'Special Events' offering unique experiences are planned. Passports come in four types: U29 Passport for those aged 29 and under, First-Half Pass, Second-Half Pass, and Full-Period Pass, going on sale from Thursday, July 16. Lottery applications for guided tours open on Friday, September 4, with a lottery held if applications exceed capacity. A special set ticket limited to 500 sets combining the architecture festival passport with a 1-day subway pass or a 1-day subway/bus pass will also be on sale.
