Japanese name:あげ松(松あげ)
📅 Mon, Aug 24, 2026
About this event
A traditional event in which torches made from pine cores are thrown into a "hiuke" (fire basket) installed atop a 20-meter-high giant torch called "torogi". The sight of the falling embers reflected against the night sky is extraordinarily beautiful, and the ritual is held to pray for bountiful harvests and protection from fire. This event is also designated as a Registered Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Kyoto Prefecture. It takes place at four locations within Miyama-cho, Nantan City: Tono, Morigou, Kawai, and Ashiu.
