About this event
The "Izumiotsu Danjiri Festival", held annually every October in Izumiotsu City, Osaka Prefecture, is a dynamic and heroic festival that announces the arrival of autumn. Danjiri floats boasting the pride of each neighborhood race through the parishioner districts of four shrines: Otsu, Izumianashi, Sone, and Sukematsu. The biggest highlight of the festival is the "Kachiai" held in the Hamahachi-cho district. This is a rare, thrilling performance nationwide where an accelerating danjiri collides from behind into another stationary danjiri in front. In addition, the "Yari-mawashi" (sharp turns at intersections) demonstrated in each district is not to be missed.
