About this event

Amagasaki Spinning, founded in Meiji 22 (1889), began producing cotton yarn as Amagasaki's first modern large-scale factory, triggering Amagasaki's development into an industrial city. This special exhibition mainly introduces historical materials from the time of its founding that were exhibited in the Former Amagasaki Spinning Head Office, the oldest surviving Western-style building in the city located at the birthplace of Amagasaki Spinning. Materials whose preservation condition deteriorated due to long-term display have been restored through a collaborative project with the Institute for Research in Humanities, Kyoto University. Through these restored materials, the exhibition unravels the history of Amagasaki Spinning, the starting point of the industrial city Amagasaki. As related events, a history lecture on restoration work, a tour of the Former Amagasaki Spinning Head Office normally closed to the public, and gallery talks by the curator in charge will also be held.
