74th Nishiwaki City Art Exhibition
Japanese name:第74回西脇市美術展覧会
📅 Thu, Oct 29, 2026 - Sun, Nov 1, 2026
About this event
Since its first edition in 1953 (Showa 28), the year following the inauguration of the former Nishiwaki municipal organization, the Nishiwaki City Art Exhibition has been a traditional art exhibition celebrating its 74th edition this year as a pillar of Nishiwaki's art and cultural projects and for promoting regional art and culture. As the 'Navel of Japan' (the center of Japan where longitude 135 degrees east and latitude 35 degrees north intersect) and a manufacturing city developed through Banshu weaving and Banshu fishhooks, it aims to be an exhibition that communicates the unique charms of Nishiwaki nationwide. The exhibition invites unique 2D and 3D works that bring out the inherent characteristics of materials regardless of techniques, as well as works valuing techniques such as fiber art and textiles. Works will be exhibited across seven categories: Japanese Painting, Western Painting, Sculpture, Crafts, Calligraphy, Photography, and Design. Following judging, awards including the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Kobe Shimbun Award, Encouragement Award, U-25 Future Award, and Moss Phlox Award (Nishiwaki Citizen Award) will be presented. In particular, the newly established U-25 Future Award targets individuals aged 25 or younger as of April 1, 2026 (Reiwa 8), placing focus on discovering next-generation talent. The award ceremony will be held on Sunday, November 1, 2026 (Reiwa 8) from 2:00 PM at the Nishiwaki City Comprehensive Civic Center Gymnasium, with public judging and judges' critiques also scheduled.
