About this event
In this exhibition, the value of the archaeological remains of the World Cultural Heritage 'Palace Capital Sites of Asuka-Fujiwara' and the history of its survey and research, uncovered by the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties (Nabunken) over more than 70 years, are introduced through actual excavated artifacts, primary records from the time of the investigations, and the latest research findings. Visitors can deeply appreciate the history and appeal of the 'Palace Capital Sites of Asuka-Fujiwara'—a group of archaeological sites showing the birth and establishment of Japan's first ancient state palace capitals from the late 6th century to the early 8th century through exchanges with the Chinese continent and Korean Peninsula—while experiencing the passionate devotion of predecessors who unraveled the stage where the ancient state was born. Excavated artifacts and related materials from numerous important sites, such as the Asuka-dera Temple Site, Kawara-dera Temple Site, Kitora Tomb, and Takamatsuzuka Tomb, will be exhibited.
