About this event
The "Kangetsu-sai" held at Tenkawa Daibenzaiten Shrine is a Shinto ritual conducted annually to coincide with the harvest moon, also known as the "Chushu no Meigetsu Shinto Ritual." The ritual is solemnized in the main sanctuary starting at 7:00 PM, featuring the dedication and performance of kagura sacred dance. As Tenkawa Daibenzaiten Shrine enshrines Benzaiten, the water spirit, and is revered as a deity of music and performing arts, this festival is expected to unfold in a mystical atmosphere. Held at Tenkawa Daibenzaiten Shrine—a pivotal training ground on sacred Mount Omine where many shugendo practitioners and pilgrims have gathered since ancient times—this moon viewing festival is a special ritual allowing one to feel its deep history and faith.
