Japanese name:柿の葉寿司体験

📅 Sat, Nov 21, 2026

📍 Kawakami, Nara

About this event

This is an event in Kawakami Village, Nara Prefecture, where you can experience making Kakinoha-sushi, known as a specialty of Yoshino. Kakinoha-sushi was originally a local cuisine of Kawakami Village, traditionally made in households as a feast for Kawabiraki (the opening of the sweetfish fishing season on June 1). In this experience, you can touch this traditional food culture, make Kakinoha-sushi yourself, and taste and compare its flavor. It is a valuable opportunity to deeply understand the local food culture and enjoy it with all five senses. After the experience, time is also provided to compare flavors from various shops within the village. You can savor the passed-down 'flavors' and 'techniques,' as well as the unique individuality of each shop, all in one single experience. During this season when persimmon leaves turn vivid colors, why not try making special 'Kakinoha-sushi' that can only be encountered at this time of year? In a traditional old house where the village's history lives on, members of the Kakinoha-sushi Association will carefully guide you through the traditional taste and craftsmanship.
