Public Exhibition of Designated Intangible Folk Cultural Property 'Owake Festival: Kenjo-shiki & Koritori'

The Kenjo-shiki (Dedication Ceremony) and Koritori (Purification Ritual) of the 'Owake Festival,' an intangible folk cultural property designated by Asakuchi City, Okayama Prefecture, will be opened to the public. This festival is an important rite where the Koritori purification ritual—in which elementary school Togo (appointed children) selected from 3 on-duty districts purify themselves to become Togo—and the Kenjo-shiki ceremony gathering relevant officials are held. Opened to the public only once a year, this traditional event conveys the deep faith of predecessors toward the deities and is a precious folk event passed down with the support of local residents. When observing, proper manners are required to avoid causing inconvenience to cultural property preservation groups and other visitors. Since there is no parking in the vicinity, the use of public transportation is recommended. The time schedule may vary slightly.
