Kawai Shrine Summer Festival (Dashi)
Japanese name:川合神社夏祭り(だし)
📅 Sun, Aug 23, 2026
About this event
This is a traditional summer festival where "dashi" designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture are dedicated. Since ancient times, shrine parishioners and local organizations have crafted and dedicated "dashi"—dolls made of straw and outfitted in paper costumes—to soothe the sacred grounds and pray for the dispelling of illness and bountiful harvests. Influenced by Kabuki, these "dashi" hold high value as folklore artifacts, and the shrine's main hall, built in the mid-Edo period, is also designated as a municipal cultural property. On the festival night, approximately 800 fireworks will be launched to color the summer night sky. The fireworks display is scheduled for around 20:45.
