Rice Field School 2026: Scarecrow Making

"Rice Field School 2026: Scarecrow Making," held in Sera Town, Hiroshima Prefecture, is an event where participants can experientially learn about the satoyama nature nurtured by rural life at the Sera Dream Park Nature Observation Garden on the Sera Plateau, where rich satoyama nature remains. Through growing glutinous rice via organic farming, investigating living creatures in rice fields, and playing nature games, participants deepen their interaction with nature. In particular, at the "Scarecrow Making" held on Saturday, September 12, participants will create scarecrows themselves to protect the rice in the paddies from sparrows. Participants will craft original scarecrows using materials such as newspapers, shopping bags, and unwanted clothes. On the day, nature games can also be enjoyed along with scarecrow making. This event is open to anyone from children to adults, and admission and tuition are free. It will be a valuable opportunity to learn and experience in nature.
