Organized by the Tobiu Art Community based at the former Tobiu Elementary School in Shiraoi Town, Hokkaido, "Tobiu Art Festival 2026" will be held over 9 days from Saturday, September 5 to Sunday, September 13, 2026. The venues are the wooden school building and the Tobiu Forest sprawling behind it. Held once a year, this art festival serves as a gathering place for diverse works and expressions using the wooden school building and the forest as stages. In addition to viewing artworks, opportunities for interaction between creators and visitors are provided. During the period, visitors can enjoy exhibitions, forest tours, workshops, cafes, and more. Notably, 2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Tobiu Art Community, with commemorative special projects planned. On Saturday, September 12 during the festival period, a special event celebrating the 40th anniversary, "Festival of Tobiu," will be held, featuring music, art, and food, as well as opening the illuminated forest at night. Programs for parents and children as well as projects accessible to a wide range of generations are available, offering a chance to experience time unique to Tobiu throughout the entire day. In addition, "TOBIU CAMP" will be held as the opening event of the art festival, unfolding diverse expressions across the forest and school building, such as music, dance, Ainu traditional songs and dances, theater, puppet shows, and workshops. It will be 9 days where visitors can experience the creative venue nurtured over 40 years and the accumulation of forest maintenance continued for more than 15 years.
