About this event

The "63rd Noboribetsu Jigoku Festival" is a traditional festival held from Saturday, August 29 to Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Noboribetsu Onsen in Noboribetsu City, Hokkaido. It is based on the legend that the lid of the cauldron of Hell is opened from Jigokudani (Hell Valley), and King Enma visits Noboribetsu Onsen leading a troupe of demons. In the main event, the "King Enma Float Procession," a giant mechanical karakuri float reaching 6 meters in height appears and parades through the hot spring town. In addition, there are many powerful spectacles unique to Noboribetsu, such as the "Oni Mikoshi Rampage Procession," in which 100 young people carry and parade a giant 1-ton red demon portable shrine, the "Grand Demon Dance Ensemble" where participants dance to hell music wearing demon masks, and the "Opening of the Hell's Cauldron" at a special venue. The festival's finale is decorated by the "Final Fireworks Display" held at Jigokudani. As a distinctive event unique to Noboribetsu, a town coexisting with Jigokudani, this festival captivates many tourists.
