Shodoshima & Teshima Autumn Festival Taikodai Dedication
Japanese name:小豆島・豊島秋祭り太鼓台奉納
📅 Sun, Oct 11, 2026 - Wed, Oct 21, 2026
About this event
In this autumn festival giving thanks for a bountiful harvest, beautifully decorated red futon taiko floats compete in skill. At Fukita Hachiman, purifying lion dances are performed, while at Ikeda Kameyama Hachiman, a brave and dynamic spectacle called "Oshikomi" can be seen, in which taikodai floats are carried in from the sea. Furthermore, at Uchinomi Hachiman, a powerful traditional event called "Nobori-sashi" unfolds, where young men dressed in taiko juban (undershirts) or happi coats lift flags measuring approximately 8 meters high with one hand and balance them on their foreheads or shoulders. These dedications, each elaborately styled across different locations, offer a precious opportunity to directly experience the region's traditions and vibrancy.
