About this event
This traditional tachi-odori (sword dance) festival has been passed down through generations in the Shiina district of Muroto City. Held as a ritual celebration of Shiina Hachioji-gu Shrine, it is a precious cultural heritage deeply rooted in the local community. The festival's highlight is the heroic tachi-odori. Fifteen dancers perform a powerful dance swinging swords in time with the sound of gongs (kane). Clad in traditional attire carefully preserved by local residents, the dancers present an overwhelming spectacle. Tachi-odori carries prayers for warding off epidemics and ensuring bountiful harvests, and has long been cherished as a sacred rite for the safety and prosperity of the local people. This festival offers a rare opportunity to experience the rich history and culture of Muroto City and serves as an important tradition preserved for future generations.
