About this event
Jointly organized by Nakama City and Chikuho Electric Railroad, this monitor tour combines a special limited public opening of the Onga River Pump Station—part of the World Heritage "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution"—with a Chikuho Electric Railroad (Chikutetsu) driving experience. On this tour, participants can visit the grounds of the Onga River Pump Station, which are usually off-limits, guided by commentary. Viewing inside the pump station building is limited to the entrance door area. Participants can also enjoy driving a Chikuho Electric Railroad train car (approx. 5 minutes per person) and a depot tour guided by Chikutetsu staff. A bento lunch is provided for tour participants. A specially wrapped train featuring the World Heritage pump station is also operated, making it an unmissable experience for railway fans. Because this tour is operated as a subsidized monitor tour from Nakama City, participants are requested to cooperate with a post-travel survey. Participation is open to elementary school students and older; junior high school students and younger must be accompanied by a guardian, and those under 18 require parental consent. Preschool children cannot participate. For safety reasons, comfortable clothing and athletic shoes are recommended.
