Shinmachi Dolmen Historic Site Park Opening Memorial Symposium

In commemoration of the opening of the Shinmachi Dolmen Historic Site Park in April this year, a symposium titled "Deciphering the Formation of Yayoi Culture from Dolmens: The Past and Future of the Shinmachi Dolmens" will be held. At this symposium, leading researchers will introduce the latest research results on the dolmens scattered across northern Kyushu, including the Shinmachi dolmens. Focusing on dolmens, which are one of the characteristics of the formative period of the Yayoi period that began when a new culture centered on rice cultivation was introduced to the Japanese archipelago, the symposium will decipher the formation of Yayoi culture. Furthermore, discussions will deepen regarding the preservation and utilization of valuable historical sites such as the Shinmachi dolmens. On the day of the event, a nickname announcement event will also be held for the facial reconstruction of the Yayoi human skeleton excavated from Tomb No. 9 of the Shinmachi dolmens, which is displayed at the Shima History Museum, offering content that can be enjoyed by families as well as history enthusiasts. Admission is free, but advance registration is required as capacity is limited to 200 people. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
