About this event
Held annually in late October, the "Kanada Inari Shinko Festival & Kanada-Kanzaki Yamakasa Competition" is a traditional festival staged on the grounds of Kanada Inari Shrine, which boasts nearly 1,200 years of history. During the day, the "Inari Shrine Shinko Festival" takes place; after completing village rounds across various districts to pray for sound health and bountiful harvests, people dressed in happi coats gather in front of Inari Shrine with their floats. Watched over by the majestic Yamakasa floats, sacred performances of shishigaku (lion dance), chigomai (children's dance), and miko (shrine maiden) dances are dedicated on the shrine grounds against the backdrop of large ginkgo trees and the main shrine building, evoking an ancient, sacred atmosphere. In the concurrent Kanada-Kanzaki Yamakasa Competition, giant illuminated Yamakasa floats exceeding 10 meters in height glow brightly. The passion of the carriers, the fastest flute melodies centered on "Nanki-bayashi" festival music, the rhythm of gongs and drums, and the unified chants of "Ora-yassa" combine into a powerful, dynamic float parade that overwhelms spectators.
