About this event
Iwazo Tenzan Shrine Furyu is a traditional Shinto ritual dedicated in rotation by six districts within the Iwazo area of Ogi City, Saga Prefecture. Originating as a prayer for victory in the Shimabara Rebellion, it is performed during festivals praying for peace across the realm and bountiful harvests. In this furyu performance, Men Furyu (masked dance) and Kane Furyu (gong dance) are dedicated; a notable highlight is the heroic dance performed by dancers wearing large crescent-shaped tentsu-ushi headdresses. Charming dances by children are also performed, offering a deep experience of community-rooted culture.
