"In an Island Nation Where Storks Fly, In This Room" is a theatrical production depicting five stories unfolding across five rooms. Brought to life by a four-person cast, this gentle yet poignant story explores themes of human connection, the weight of choices, and the flow of time—portraying choices faced by parents and children confronting unintended pregnancy, the pregnancy of a low-income couple, male postpartum depression, a couple's decision to end years of fertility treatments, and an elder sister who does not wish for her own marriage or pregnancy while having a younger sister in a same-sex relationship. Written and directed by Sapporo-based playwright and director Masako Takahashi, the production received critical acclaim, winning the TGR Sapporo Theater Festival Excellence Award for its Sapporo run in November 2025. Following its Sendai performance in February 2026, its reputation has spread beyond Hokkaido. It is a deeply moving work that captures the time needed to embrace tomorrow.
