Set in Broadway, the capital of show business, this is the story of 17 dancers remaining in the final audition to select chorus dancers for a new musical, who respond to questions from director Zach and begin to share their life stories not found on their resumes. Mike, who became a dancer just by tagging along to his sister's dance lessons; Sheila, Maggie, and Bebe, who longed for ballet due to complex family backgrounds; Diana, who rose from being an underachiever to becoming an actress through self-study; Val, who found plenty of work after cosmetic surgery; Paul, who used to dance in drag shows; and Cassie, Zach's former lover who returned to the stage after a setback in transitioning from dancer to Hollywood star—each candidly reveals their circumstances and worries. As the audition progresses and a sense of camaraderie develops, director Zach asks, "If today was the last day you could dance, what would you do?" Even so, they affirm their lives and strive for the stage, declaring, "No regrets. No matter how hard the path I chose, I have no regrets about the days I gave everything to live." This is a timeless musical depicting people living the brilliance of their lives with all their might, where everyone is the star.
