Kagoshima Jingu Shrine Hamakudari Shinko Festival
Japanese name:鹿児島神宮 浜下り神幸祭
📅 Sat, Oct 17, 2026 - Sun, Oct 18, 2026
About this event
An annual divine procession festival (Shinkosai) where the enshrined deity Hikohohodemi no Mikoto (Yamasachihiko) rides in a portable shrine (mikoshi) touring the parishioner neighborhoods to the Shinkochi site at Hamanoshi near Hayato Fishing Port, where he is said to have returned from Watatsumi-no-Kuni (the land of the sea), to pray for household safety and regional development. It is said to have begun alongside the construction of Hayatoduka to appease the spirits of the Hayato tribe, and the procession of approximately 1,000 people, including warriors in armor and helmets, is spectacular. Held annually on the third Saturday and Sunday of October, in 2026 it will take place from Saturday, October 17 to Sunday, October 18. The venue is Kagoshima Jingu Shrine, and admission is free. It is accessible about a 10-minute walk from Hayato Station on the JR Nippo Main Line, and also accessible from Hayato-Higashi IC on the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway. Parking is available at Kagoshima Jingu Shrine and Hamanoshi.
