About this event
As part of the Shuri Castle Main Hall Reconstruction Commemorative Project, a commemorative performance entitled "Yuya Naore" will be held in Miyakojima City. This performance is part of a commemorative project themed "The Underlying Strength and Expansion of Regional Culture," which will roll out sequentially across 7 regions in the prefecture, starting with Miyakojima. The Miyako performance will showcase unprecedented staging that reflects upon the prayers and history of forebears. In particular, by recreating eras when traditional Miyako recitations (kojo) were performed through improvisation, it aims to express the prayerful spirits of predecessors in a way that connects them to the future from both lively and solemn aspects. While celebrating the reconstruction of Shuri Castle, it is also expected to provide an opportunity to evaluate Shuri Castle from multifaceted perspectives, taking into account historical backgrounds such as the poll tax in the Sakishima Islands, which indicates that Shuri Castle was not necessarily a solely joyful place. Ryukyuan dance and Kuicha will also be performed.
