Kagi Mana Hula in Miyakojima 2026
Japanese name:カギマナフラ in 宮古島 2026
📅 Fri, Oct 23, 2026 - Sun, Oct 25, 2026
About this event
Kagi Mana Hula in Miyakojima 2026, where Miyakojima is immersed entirely in hula, will be held again this year over three days. Continuing since 2013, this hula event combines "Kagi" (beautiful) from the Miyakojima dialect and "Mana" (soul/spirit) from Hawaiian, expressing the sentiment of "the spirit of beautiful islands." As an exchange platform carrying the bond established in 1965 between sister cities Miyakojima and Maui, Hawaii into the future, it is beloved by many hula enthusiasts. On the first day of the event, "Dedication Dance and Path of Prayer: Get to Know Miyakojima," where dedication dances are offered to the island's deities to pray for the success and safety of the gathering, will be held at Hotel Tiida no Sato. On the second day, the "International Hula Competition," where halau from Japan and overseas compete in hula technique and expressiveness, will take place at Matida Civic Theater. On the final day, "Turiver Hula," which anyone can enjoy for free on a special outdoor stage against the backdrop of the Miyako blue sea and sunset, will be held at Turiver Seaside Park. This event is a unique Miyakojima festival that not only shares the charms of the island and culture nurtured by seafaring people, but also contributes greatly to tourism promotion and regional revitalization as a nationwide hula event.
