About this event

The Haari, connecting the traditions and pride of Miyakojima, will be held passionately again this year. The race event using traditional wooden boats called 'sabani,' which have been passed down since ancient times, is not merely a speed contest, but a serious showdown testing the rowers' technique, teamwork, and physical strength. As a venue for exchange passing local culture on to the next generation, it attracts many participants and spectators. Amidst the sounds of sabani rowing and cheering, it will be a day to experience the island's proud traditional culture and appreciate the blessings of the sea and the preciousness of human connections. In this tournament, each team consists of 11 to 13 members (10 rowers, 1 steerer, and 2 substitute members), competing in 2 races over a 100m round-trip course (200m), riding both of 2 sabani boats, with the championship determined by the total combined time. The recruitment quota is 15 teams (planned), the entry fee is 20,000 yen (tax included) per team, and the winning prize is 100,000 yen worth of gift certificates. The application deadline for participation is Friday, October 16, 2026.
