The "Morioka Shinkansen Depot Open Day 2026," held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Morioka Shinkansen Depot in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, is an event packed with diverse activities bringing visitors closer to the Shinkansen. A major highlight is a special display of the Series E3 Shinkansen used for cargo transport services, where guests can view the exterior and take commemorative photos in front of the lead car. In addition, visitors can participate in the "Driver's Cab Experience" to sit in the Series E5 driver's seat and experience the driver's perspective, as well as the "Depot Shunting Ride Experience" to ride an E5 train slowly traveling within the rail yard. Furthermore, ride experiences are available on the "Rail Star" used for track inspections and maintenance vehicles used for electrical power equipment upkeep, providing rare opportunities unique to a rail depot usually off-limits to the public. Other programs include posing from a conductor's compartment window for photos like a train conductor at a station, and issuing event-exclusive mock tickets using an automatic ticket vending machine. "Kan-chan," the official mascot character of the JR East Morioka Branch, will also appear to enliven the event. Pantographs and bogie parts will be on display, alongside ekiben bento box sales and food truck stalls. Admission tickets are limited to 500 groups sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
