About this event
This cycling geo-tour along Kabato Road traces the history of Hokkaido's development. Participants will actually ride along Kabato Road, which was constructed during the Meiji era by prisoners forced to perform harsh labor, while learning about the pioneering conditions of that time. With a guide, you will tour this historic road, which was surveyed using smoke signals from bonfires lit between Maruyama in Tsukigata Town and Mount Tappu in Mikasa City. The tour also includes visits to related facilities such as the Tsukigata Kabato Museum, allowing visitors to experience the significance of infrastructure development in the pioneering of Hokkaido. Electric assist bicycles that easily handle uphill slopes are used, so even beginners to cycling can participate with peace of mind. Starting and ending at Roadside Station Mikasa (Michi-no-Eki Mikasa), participants can also enjoy scenic views from the Mount Tappu Observation Deck and Maruyama Observation Deck. Lunch is included, making this a valuable experience where you can enjoy both the history of Hokkaido's development and magnificent nature at the same time.
