6th Zao Town Togatta Kokeshi Festival

The "6th Zao Town Togatta Kokeshi Festival" will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the Miyagi Zao Kokeshi Museum. From 9:00 to around 15:30, various events will take place at the Zao Town Traditional Industry Hall (Miyagi Zao Kokeshi Museum) in Togatta Onsen. The event will feature demonstration sales by young Togatta-style artisans and invited artisans, sales of works by artisans of other styles, and "Kokelympics 2026" (a presentation of painted works) for elementary school students. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a memorial service (ritual burning) for kokeshi dolls, a parade and performance by the Togatta Elementary School drum and fife band, as well as various merchandise and food/drink booths. The venue is about 30 minutes by car from the Murata IC or Shiroishi IC on the Tohoku Expressway, about 70 minutes by highway express bus from Sendai Station, and about a 10-minute walk from the Miyakoh Bus "Togatta Onsen Bus Stop."
