Japanese name:面白山紅葉川渓谷の紅葉 2026
📅 Wed, Oct 21, 2026 - Tue, Nov 10, 2026
About this event
At Momijigawa Gorge, which spreads out at the foot of Mount Omoshiro located on the border between Yamagata and Miyagi prefectures, autumn leaves will reach their peak in autumn 2026. The autumn foliage of broadleaf trees covering the gorge creates an exquisite contrast with evergreen trees, producing a spectacular view befitting the name 'Momijigawa' (Autumn Foliage River). With waterfalls of various sizes pouring into the gorge, still waters quietly reflecting the autumn colors of the slopes on the water surface, and thrilling suspension bridges, the route is rich in variety. On the trekking course with a total length of about 2 kilometers, you can casually enjoy nature while taking in the babbling of the river and gorgeous autumn colors to your heart's content. There is also a course heading upstream from Omoshiroyama-Kogen Station, which is ideal for strolling while enjoying the autumn leaves. The typical best viewing period is from late October to early November, though it may vary depending on weather conditions. Admission is free.
