Kaminoyama Autumn Festival

About this event

Set across the city of Kaminoyama, the traditional "Kaminoyama Sansha Mikoshi Procession" and the "Furusato Autumn Festival 'Dancing Floats' (Odori Dashi)," where local youths perform various dances atop festival floats, will be held. In the "Kaminoyama Sansha Mikoshi Procession," armored samurai units, fife and drum corps, and processions of traditionally dressed children (chigo) from Kaminoyama Hachiman Shrine, Miyawaki Shōhachiman Shrine, and Tsukioka Shrine will march through the central shopping district, conveying the enduring strength of Kaminoyama's longstanding traditional events. Meanwhile, during the "Furusato Autumn Festival 'Dancing Floats,'" the Hanayagi Yūazusa troupe in the afternoon session and Yamagata Maiko in the evening session will perform gorgeous dances on the floats, presenting a human stage where pullers and dancers perform in perfect unison. In particular, the opening ceremony where all floats gather, the departure of the mikoshi procession, and the evening dance performances are sure to be festival highlights. With recruitment open for general participants and the children's unit, it is a festival where the whole community comes together in high spirits.
