About this event

Located in the center of Fukushima Prefecture and also known as "Tenkyoko" (Heaven's Mirror Lake), Lake Inawashiro was registered under the Ramsar Convention in July 2025 as a wintering site for tundra swans, raising momentum for its conservation and utilization. In recent years, changes in water quality and the overgrowth of aquatic plants, such as water chestnuts (hishi), have become issues in Lake Inawashiro, but water chestnut fruits are edible and their utilization as a regional resource has also begun. This summit, held for the 4th time in Inawashiro Town, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture, aims to introduce part of the research results achieved so far by the National Institute for Environmental Studies and to promote the conservation and utilization of Lake Inawashiro's environment and ecosystem services. Anyone can participate, and participation is free, but registration is required.
