About this event

The '18th Kimono Day Yuki', an event promoting the appeal of kimono, will be held in Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Celebrating its 18th edition this year, participants stroll through the historic townscape wearing their favorite kimono. At the venue, a lottery will be held with luxurious prizes including bolts of authentic Yuki Tsumugi silk fabric, and lottery ticket purchasers will receive a 300 yen shopping voucher. Exclusive to lottery ticket purchasers, there is also the 'Walk and Keyword' activity, which anyone wearing traditional Japanese items (wa) can join even without a kimono, giving a chance to approximately double the winning probability for top prizes. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy the 'Yuki Tsumugi Exhibition at a Temple' to appreciate the beauty of Yuki Tsumugi weaving in a quiet temple setting, the 'Yuki Tsumugi Haori Experience' to casually try on a Yuki Tsumugi haori jacket, and a 'Rickshaw Ride Experience' offering a special journey as if stepping back in time. Visitors can also feel the traditional Japanese ambiance through 'Town Guides' led by volunteer tourist guides around Yuki, and 'Sound Events' featuring musical performances of Shinonowa and Tsumugi Taiko drums. In addition, there will be an exhibition and sale of Yuki paulownia wood products, as well as the 'Paulownia Box Morning Market & Dyeing Experience' featuring local agricultural produce, handmade miscellaneous goods, and food trucks. During the event period, free shuttle buses and tuk-tuks are scheduled to operate connecting the North Exit of Yuki Station to the venues. Since wearing a kimono comes with various special perks, visitors are encouraged to participate in kimono and fully enjoy the townscape of Yuki.
