On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the "Promote the Charm of Ushiku! Lantern Festival Coloring the Night Sky" will be held at Ushiku Chateau, a Japan Heritage site in Ushiku City, Ibaraki Prefecture. This event aims to showcase the charms of Ushiku by lighting up LED sky lanterns in the autumn night sky. Visitors can enjoy the magical lantern light alongside Ushiku Chateau's historic red-brick architecture, gardens, and photo spots around the newly developed "Seifu Falls" area. High school students in Ushiku City are involved in planning and operating the event, providing an opportunity to foster local pride and affection for the community. Furthermore, crowdfunding is being used to gather support to realize and enliven the event. Backer rewards include guaranteed lantern launch spots and wine cakes related to Ushiku Chateau wine. In case of severe weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday, October 25.
