29th Yamagatashuku Imonikai (Taro Stew Gathering)
Japanese name:第29回 やまがた宿芋煮会

About this event
The 29th Yamagatashuku Imonikai, held in Hitachiomiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a regular annual event where you can savor the flavors of autumn. The biggest highlight of this event is that a large quantity of imoni (taro and meat stew) is cooked all at once in a massive pot with a diameter of 3.5 meters, boasting the largest size in the Kanto region. Seven carefully selected local ingredients—locally produced taro, flavorful Okukuji Shamo chicken, ball konnyaku, green onions, burdock root, dried shiitake mushrooms, and dried taro stems (imogara)—are used generously, allowing you to taste special imoni unique to Yamagatashuku. At the venue, imoni is served for 500 yen per bowl (cooperation fee), payable by cash only. Access to the venue is about a 5-minute walk from JR Suigun Line Yamagatashuku Station, or about a 50-minute drive from the Joban Expressway Naka IC. Multiple parking areas are available, but using public transportation is recommended due to limited spaces.
